The report, allegedly influenced by fundamentalist groups and political actors,\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>has completely ignored atrocities such as:• The killing of \u003Cstrong>3,000 police officers\u003C\u002Fstrong>\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>• Attacks on \u003Cstrong>over 400 minority homes\u003C\u002Fstrong>\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>• \u003Cstrong>Public lynchings\u003C\u002Fstrong>, where victims were hung from footbridges\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>• The \u003Cstrong>systematic looting and burning\u003C\u002Fstrong> of properties belonging to religious and\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>ethnic minorities\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>Despite being a signatory to multiple international human rights treaties, Bangladesh has\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>failed to uphold its commitments, particularly regarding the protection of minorities.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>\u003Cstrong>Urgent Justice for Persecuted Minorities\u003C\u002Fstrong>\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>We call on the EU to immediately \u003Cstrong>condition\u003C\u002Fstrong> its financial support to Bangladesh on\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>concrete human rights benchmarks:\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>1. \u003Cstrong>Protection for minorities\u003C\u002Fstrong> – Stop religious and ethnic persecution.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>2. \u003Cstrong>Justice for victims\u003C\u002Fstrong> – Ensure fair trials for those responsible for rape, murder,\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>and destruction of minority properties.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>3. \u003Cstrong>Return all illegally seized lands\u003C\u002Fstrong> – Restore illegally seized properties to rightful\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>minority owners.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>4. \u003Cstrong>Reinstate dismissed workers\u003C\u002Fstrong> – Ensure minorities who were unjustly fired\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>regain employment.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>\u003Cstrong>Case of Chinmoy Krishna Das – A Test of Justice\u003C\u002Fstrong>\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>The arrest of \u003Cstrong>Chinmoy Krishna Das on 25 November 2024\u003C\u002Fstrong> is yet another example of\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>the injustice faced by minorities in Bangladesh. His case, along with others, must be\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>addressed \u003Cstrong>urgently and transparently\u003C\u002Fstrong> by the Bangladeshi High Court.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>\u003Cstrong>The actions that EU can take :\u003C\u002Fstrong>\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>The European Union cannot continue providing \u003Cstrong>billions of euros\u003C\u002Fstrong> to Bangladesh without\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>demanding accountability. GHRD urges the EU Parliament to:\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>• \u003Cstrong>Adopt a resolution\u003C\u002Fstrong> condemning the violence, human rights violations, and\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>democratic backsliding in Bangladesh, as these contradict the fundamental values\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>the EU upholds.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>GHRD also calls on the European Commission and Council of the EU to:\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>• \u003Cstrong>Review and condition financial aid \u003C\u002Fstrong>on measurable human rights\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>improvements.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>• \u003Cstrong>Consider imposing sanctions (restrictive measures) \u003C\u002Fstrong>to promote democracy,\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>human rights and international law.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>The international community can no longer turn a blind eye.
