Date: Saturday 20 March 2021 Time: 15:00-16:30 Hours (CET)
European Bangladesh Forum (EBF), a Europe-based Diaspora organization of Bangladeshi Europeans will organize a Virtual Conference on ‘China’s Persecution of Uyghur Muslim: The Silence of the World’ on Saturday 20 March 2021 at 3p.m. to 4:30 p.m. (CET/Netherlands Time).
The meeting is being organized in the backdrop of the atrocities relentless committed against the Uyghurs in China. The Xinjiang province in the northwestern region of China is home to the Turkic speaking ethnic group, 'Uyghur' who are mostly Muslims. More than a million Muslims reported to have reportedly been arbitrarily detained in China’s Xinjiang region. The re-education camps are just one part of the government’s crackdown on Uighurs. The Chinese government has reportedly imprisoned more than one million people since 2017 and subjected those not detained to intense surveillance, religious restrictions, and forced sterilizations. Chinese government has been accused of forced detention of Uighurs systematic way in specially designed camps and torture apparently to control spread of extremism in the area especially since 2017.
The meeting will mainly focus on the atrocities of the Uyghur Muslims by the Chinese government and demand of the European governments to address the issue and take up the matter with the Chinese government in order to resolve it. The meeting will also highlight the atrocities being committed relentlessly by the Chinese authorities and create public opinion to press the Dutch government to condemn the fact that certain textile chain shops in Europe including the Netherlands are importing fabrics which were reportedly made under forced labor of the Uyghurs in China.
The meeting will be addressed by the President of the World Uyghur Congress Mr. Dolkun Isa, Executive Director of Uyghur Human Rights Project, New York Mr. Omer Kanat, former Member of the Dutch Parliament Mr Harry van Bommel and Postdoctoral Research Fellow at WZB Berlin Social Science Center Dr. Tommaso Virgili. The conference will be moderated by senior researcher and writer Dr. Mojibur Doftori of Finland.
The virtual meeting is being organized in collaboration with the International Human Rights Commission, Switzerland branch, while the London-based British Bangla News (http://britishbanglanews.com) will host the program. It will be LIVE telecast from the British Bangla News and can be watched LIVE on the You Tube and the British Bangla News Face Book Page.
