De BF Global Group rapporteert op CO2-uitstoot met BigMile

BigMile, leverancier van software voor het calculeren, rapporteren en communiceren van transport-gerelateerde CO2-uitstoot, maakt bekend dat de BF Global Group voor BigMile heeft gekozen. ‘Voor elk bedrijf wordt het vanzelfsprekend om een CO2-boekhouding op te zetten naast de financiële boekhouding’, weet Joost Janssen van de BF Global Group.

De BF Global Group biedt als control tower met wegtransport (BF Global Logistics), lucht- en zeevracht (BF Global Freight+), warehousing en distributie (BF Global Warehouse) een totaalconcept aan. Opdrachtgevers komen vooral uit het hogere segment fashion, hightech, huishoudelijk en chemie. Met vestigingen in Raamsdonksveer, Belfeld, Venlo en Enschede beschikt het bedrijf over 65.000 m² opslagcapaciteit.

De BF Global Group is recent gestart met het in kaart brengen van CO2-uitstoot voor de logistieke dienstverlening. ‘Helemaal in onze bedrijfstak is het noodzakelijk om de uitstoot van broeikasgassen systematisch te reduceren, en wel zo snel mogelijk. Het vervoer over water, door de lucht en over weg laat veel sporen na’, zegt Joost Janssen, Business Support & Implementation Manager bij de BF Global Group. ‘Het is maatschappelijk gezien noodzakelijk om de uitstoot van broeikasgassen systematisch te reduceren, en wel zo snel mogelijk.’

Onderdeel van de bedrijfsvoering

Volgens Janssen wordt rapporteren op CO2-uitstoot uiteindelijk een normaal onderdeel van de bedrijfsvoering: ‘Goed registreren van de brongegevens uit de operatie, accuraat verwerken tot cijfers die voor verantwoording, rapportage en analyse gebruikt worden. Deze worden gecontroleerd door een accountant die een goedkeurende verklaring geeft; dat wordt de norm.’

BF Global is voorlopig zelf nog niet rapportageplichtig, maar veel van de opdrachtgevers straks wel. ‘We willen hier klaar voor zijn en hen mee laten veren op ons format. Dat doen we samen met BigMile. Dat is een bewezen systeem om de transport-gerelateerde CO2-footprint bij te houden op klantniveau.’

Datakwaliteit

Sven Poot, Business Development Manager bij BigMile, voegt eraan toe: ‘Samenwerking in de keten is noodzakelijk voor structurele verlaging van de transport-gerelateerde carbon footprint. Voor control towers is het verkrijgen van toegang tot data van hun vervoerders noodzakelijk, maar ook uitdagend. Ik heb de BF Global Group leren kennen als een hands-on bedrijf dat niet afwacht tot het perfecte moment zich aandient. En waarom zou het? We zien bij andere BigMile gebruikers de tendens dat de datakwaliteit in de loop van tijd geleidelijk aan steeds meer verbetert. Het is dus belangrijk om gewoon te starten. En dat is precies wat BF Global aan het doen is.’

BF Global Group chooses BigMile for carbon emissions reporting

BF Global Group has chosen BigMile as its supplier of software for calculating, reporting and communicating transportation-related carbon emissions. “One day, carbon accounting will be as normal as financial accounting for all companies,” states Joost Janssen of BF Global Group.

As a control tower, BF Global Group offers a total concept: road transport (BF Global Logistics), air and sea freight (BF Global Freight+), and warehousing and distribution (BF Global Warehouse). Its clients are primarily active in higher-end fashion, high-tech, household goods and chemicals. The company has 65,000m² of storage capacity across its four facilities in the Dutch towns of Raamsdonksveer, Belfeld, Venlo and Enschede.

BF Global Group recently started mapping carbon emissions for its logistics services. “From a societal perspective, it’s necessary to systematically reduce greenhouse gas emissions – preferably as soon as possible – and particularly in our industry. Whether by water, air or road, transport has an impact on the environment,” comments Joost Janssen, Business Support & Implementation Manager at BF Global Group.

Part of the operation

Janssen predicts that carbon emissions reporting will eventually be just a regular part of business operations: “The source data will be appropriately captured from the operational activities and accurately processed into statistics that are used for decisions, reporting and analysis. Then the figures will be audited and approved by an accountant. That will become the norm.”

BF Global itself is not currently obliged to report its carbon emissions, but many of its clients soon will be. “We want to be ready for this and allow them to benefit from our approach. We’re doing that together with BigMile, which offers a proven system for monitoring the transport-related carbon footprint at client level,” he adds.

Data quality

“Supply chain collaboration is necessary to fundamentally reduce the transportation-related carbon footprint. Control towers need to gain access to data from their carriers, but that’s also challenging,” says Sven Poot, Business Development Manager at BigMile. “In my experience, BF Global Group is a hands-on company that doesn’t waste time waiting for the perfect moment to arise. And why should it? As other BigMile users are experiencing, data quality gradually improves over time. So it’s important to just get started – which is exactly what BF Global is doing,” he concludes.
